Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the attack rendered him speechless and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
